The Hoop Snake moves at an incredible speed, keeping clear of trees as well as cars and other objects that might be in its way. It is a harrier that chases its victim down through hills and down, along with sets of steps, across the backyard, and then over the cat. There is nothing that can stop this ancient reptile from following a child who is their preferred prey. I remember looking around every corner as a child to ensure I was safe from this familiar snake. However I did not see it myself, nor did I meet another kid who was either pursued by the Hoop Snake. My generation probably was more agile than those of the past since the majority of adults who talked about this creature were either victims or relatives who were attacked by a Hoop Snake. It is sad for kids to discover that Hoop Snakes are now extinct. Children wouldn't have the opportunity to meet the animal even if they did not hear about it from their parents.
It's impossible to determine the number of children who were slapped by the creators of this tail for being late for dinner or not getting there on time. It was a very stressful time for a lot of youngsters in my neighborhood, I can tell you that with all sincerity. It is now evident that there's never been and will never be a Hoop Snake. It is partly because of my childhood. Can you just imagine the strength it would possess were this creature real? Its ability to turn on its back is a defiance to all laws of physics. It is also able to swerve in and around trees, while its eyes are focused either downward or upward and never noticing what is within its way. So I must have provided some adults with a laugh while I walked through the streets, looking at every corner I came across. The story is a sham, never was a Hoop Snake, never will be.
The dreaded Milk Snake is next. It is the cause of children suffering from bone brittle disease. I was taught as a kid to drink my entire milk because there was an increase in Milk Snakes from the rainy season. It was expected that there will be a shortage soon. This Milk Snake was not related to the actual milk snake, one of the members of the King Snake family, (Lampropeltis triangulum) but not in any way. The large, fat snake was completely black and moved in slow and deliberate manners, making it impossible for cows to avoid. It would cling to the cows utter and never giving an thought to the children whose teeth were sure to be ripped out and get brittle bones. It took the cow's blood dry. Based on our research, farmers used to visit the barn during breaks during the day to gather dust and milk the cows.
Farmers would be rewarded with a bounty, and would offer huge sums of money for any milk snake brought to them. I never really thought about it but do you think about how big the milk snake must have been to consume three to four gallons of milk at a single time? The snake can reach twenty-five feet in length and be as large as a football. This size snake could have been difficult to find, but as the vampire that could consume six liters of blood from a single victim, it was magic. Because no one ever made the first cent from the bounty's for the milk thief. It's sad to announce that the myth of the milk snake has been debunked. Snakes can't tolerate lactose so forcing a snake drink two pounds of water can cause death. Beware!
