Being able to turn over onto its back defies the laws of physics, as can its ability to turn through trees and other objects as its eyes look upwards or downwards and not noticing what lay in its path. While I was wandering around looking at every corner I was able to give a little of a laugh to a couple of adults. Then there is the fearsome Milk Snake who was responsible for children developing Brittle Bone Disease. When I was a kid, I was instructed to drink my entire milk as there had been an increase in the number of Milk Snakes as a result of the rains that were heavy. There would be a shortage of milk very soon. The Milk Snake wasn't related to the actual milk snake, one of the members of the King Snake family, (Lampropeltis triangulum), not at all. The snake was long and fat, all black and slipped into barns under the cover of darkness slow and deliberate, a cow never stood an opportunity. It would cling to the cows' utters and never give any thought to the children whose teeth were sure to fall out , and later get brittle bones. It sucked that poor cow dry. We were informed that farmers would return to the barn after a time breaks to discover dust on the cows' teeth as they attempted to milk it.
Some farmers offered a bounty to this snake and would pay huge sums for each milk snake that was brought to them. I never really thought about it , but can you imagine how huge the milk snake must be to consume up to four gallons of milk in a single sitting? We're talking about 25 feet, and as large as the size of a football. It was difficult to locate a snake of this size, but it was magical as was vampires who could drink six liters from one human victim. The only person who ever took home the first penny of the money given to the milk thieves. Sad to say, the milk serpent is a legend. It's never been ever been and will never be again. Snakes are lactose intolerant. Forcing a snake to drink two ounces of water could cause the death of the snake. Fooled again!
