Every child that ventures out of doors is advised to be on the lookout for the "Hoop Snake" which is a reptile that migrates. The long, muscular snake can form a perfect 360° circle around its body when on the ground. The snake inserts its tail into its mouth, creating a live Hula Hoop. It flips over onto its side, and the chase begins!

The Hoop Snake is able to move at an incredible speed, staying clear of trees or cars and other objects that might be in its way. It chases its victim down, up and down hills and down hills, as well as sets of steps, through the backyard, and then over the cat. It is impossible to stop the snake from following children and their most sought-after prey. I remember looking around every corner as a child to make sure my safety from the familiar snake. Unfortunately I did not see the Hoop Snake myself and I never met any other child who was chased by it. I'd guess that my generation was faster then the generations of past and nearly everyone who talked about this creature was a former victim or had a friend who was scourged by the Hoop Snake. It is sad when children are aware that Hoop Snakes do not exist. With such a deep dread in their voices, the adults spoke about the creature with the same detail that a child wouldn't get to hear their stories.

It's impossible to tell how many children received spankings by the creators of this tail because they were late for dinner, for not keeping their schedules or for taking a long walk, or looking at every possible spot the Hoop Snake could lurk as they made their way back home. It was very confusing for many children from my former neighborhood. It is now clear that there never was nor will ever be an Hoop Snake and I'm saddened by this most likely due to the years spent in my early childhood. Can you even imagine the strength this creature could have should it be real? The ability to flip on its back is an inflict of defiance to the laws of physics. The animal is also able to maneuver in and out trees, while its eyes are either looking downwards or upwards. I'm sure I brought plenty of laughs for some adults as they watched me look around at every corner I walked by. The story has been debunked.

The next one is the unwelcomed Milk Snake. It was the reason for children to develop brittlebone disease. As a young person I was instructed to drink my whole milk because of an increase in Milk Snakes caused by the heavy rains. This meant there will soon be a shortage. This Milk Snake was not related to the actual milk snake, which is a part of the King Snake family, (Lampropeltis triangulum) but not in any way. The snake was large and black and was able to sneak into barns, hiding under the cover of a dark cloak. The snake moved slow and in a deliberate manner, meaning that it didn't have an opportunity. It would latch onto cows ' utterings and not think about children. Their teeth were sure to fall out, and then it took the cow's blood. There was a legend that said farmers would go to the barn during the day to dust the cows when they attempted to milk them.

Farmers were rewarded with a bounty and would be willing to pay a huge sum for any milk snake that was brought to them. I never really thought about it , but can you imagine how large the milk snake must be to have consumed three to four gallons of milk at a single sitting? The snake can grow to twenty-five feet in length and be as large as a football. This size snake would have been hard to find, but like the vampire who could consume six liters blood from a single victim it was a feat of magic. Since nobody ever took the first dollar out of all of the bounty's for the milk thieves. The mythical milk snake is gone. Snakes are lactose intolerant, so forcing the animals to drink two ounces could lead to their demise. Beware of the myths!

What has occurred? This terrifying creature is the result of two extremely lusty and distinct species of snakes that happened to each other short time back. Male was an Eastern Diamondback snake that happened to encounter the Southern Pine serpent. Both were looking at each other, stars were observed by both, and cupid began shooting arrows around. As with all married couples they had plenty of young uns. They were far more than normal young people. The snakes carried the majority of their father's defensive weaponry and half of their mothers. The Bull snake or the Bull snake, as it was known was one of the most deadly animals you might encounter in the woods.
