It was confusing for many youngsters in my community. I can assure you. It is now clear that there's never been nor will ever be a Hoop Snake. This is partly because of my childhood. Imagine how much strength it could be if the animal were actually alive. Its ability to turn on its side defies all physical laws. It also can move around and in between trees while its eyes are fixed either downwards or upwards and never noticing what is on the other side of its way. When I left I glanced around every corner. This tale is not true. I'm not a Hoop Snake.
The next one is the scary Milk Snake, who caused brittlebone disease in children. As a youngster, I was told to drink all my milk as there had been an increase in Milk Snakes due to the torrential rains, and there was sure to be a milk shortage fairly in the near future. This snake was large and all-black , and would slip into barns underneath a cloak of darkness. The cows wouldn't be able to stop it from moving swiftly and deliberately. It would take the cow's' words and go on to suck the cow dry. We knew that the barn would be visited by farmers at breaks during the day, and they would leave behind dust as the cows spoke as they milked them.
Farmers had a bounty and would be willing to pay a huge sum for milk snakes that were brought to them. I never really considered it, but do you think about how big the milk snake would be to consume three to four gallons milk at a single sitting? It can reach twenty-five foot and can be as tall as a football. Even though a snake this size might have been very difficult to catch however, it's not impossible to capture. Sad to say, the milk serpent is not real. It has never been one and will never be again. Snakes aren't tolerant of lactose, so making a snake drink 2 ounces of snake water could result in its death. You've been fooled!
