When I was a kid, I was advised to drink my entire milk because of an rise in the number of Milk Snakes brought on by the heavy rains. This meant there will soon be a shortage. The Milk Snake did not appear to be related in any way to the actual Milk Snake and is part of the King Snake Family (Lampropeltistriangulum). The snake was huge and black, and would sneak into barns beneath the cover of a dark cloth. It moved slow and deliberatey, so it didn't have a chance. It would grab onto cows' utter and not give any thought to the children whose teeth were sure to be ripped out and get brittle bones. It forced the poor cow to drink dry. We knew that the barn would be visited by farmers during day break, who left dust behind as the cows uttered while they milked them.
The snake was a sought-after possession of farmers and they would pay huge amounts for each snake that was brought to their attention. While I wasn't thinking about it, could you imagine the size of the milk snake must be to have consumed three to four five gallons of milk in a single session? It's up to 25 feet and can be as tall like a football. It's obvious that a snake this large could have been simple to spot. However, just like the vampire who could drink up to six liters of blood from one individual it was pure magical. Nobody ever got the first cent of the bounty that was offered to the milk theft thief. It's sad to say that the milk serpent is a legend. It's never been ever been and isn't likely to be. Snakes are actually lactose intolerant. Forcing the snake to drink two inches of snake water could well cause its demise. Don't fall for the myths.
