Hoop Snakes move at lightning speed, darting trees, cars, and other objects along its path. It pursues its victim up, into hills. As a child I sat at every corner to ensure safety against the well-known snake. However, I did not have the opportunity to observe one or meet another child who was pursued by one. My generation was likely faster than those of the past because the majority of people who spoke about the creature were victims or had relatives who were stomped on by a Hoop Snake. It was quite confusing for many of the kids from my former neighborhood. Now , I can see that there never was or will be a Hoop Snake. This is an unfortunate fact due to the years I lost when I was a kid. Imagine the strength it would have if it were alive. It's incredible to be able to flip on its side, defying the laws of physics. Additionally, it has the ability to steer into and out of trees and other obstacles. While its eyes are always looking down or up and down, it is unable to see what Lay is in its direction. They were quite amused as I watched them glance around at every corner that I went to. The story I told you about isn't real. I'm not a Hoop Snake.
Next up is the frightening Milk Snake, who caused brittlebone disease in children. As a youngster I was taught to drink all my milk since there was an increase in Milk Snakes because of the torrential rains. There would be an influx of milk soon. The Milk Snake did not appear to be related in any way to the real Milk Snake, which is part of the King Snake Family (Lampropeltistriangulum). The large, fat snake was completely black and moved in slow and deliberate manners, making it impossible for cows to resist. It would grab onto cows' utter and not give any thought to the children whose teeth were sure to fall out and then get brittle bones. It sucked that poor cow dry. It was said that farmers would go to the barn in the evening to clean the cows, and then leave it to utter as they milked the cows.
The reward was paid by farmers who would pay a lot of money per milk snake they brought to their farm. Although I didn't think about it, can you imagine how big the milk snake must be to have consumed three to four gallons of milk in a single session? The snake could grow up to 25 feet in length and can be as big as a football. It was difficult to find a snake this large, but it was magical as was the vampire that could drink six liters from one human. The only person who ever took home the first dollar of all the bounty's paid to this milk thief. Sad to say that the milk snake is a legend and never has been, never will be. Snakes are lactose intolerant. Forcing a snake to drink 2 ounces of milk could lead to the death of the snake. Beware of the myths!
