The next one is the unwelcome Milk Snake. It was at the root of children developing Brittlebone Disease. As a youngster I was advised to drink all of my milk since there was an increase of Milk Snakes as a result of the heavy rains and there was likely to be a milk shortage fairly soon. The Milk Snake was not related to the real milk snake, one of the members of the King Snake family, (Lampropeltis triangulum) but not in any way. This snake was large and all-black and would slip into barns under a blanket of darkness. A cow would not be capable of stopping it from moving at a slow pace and purposefully. It would grab onto cows' utters and not care about the children whose teeth would soon fall out. The snake then sucked the cow dry. Our knowledge was that the barn was visited by farmers at day break, who would leave behind dust as the cows would utter their thoughts as they milked them.

I've never considered it, but can you imagine how huge the milk snake would have been to consume up to four gallons of milk at a single time? A snake this large would have been easy to spot, but unlike the vampire who was able to consume six tons of blood from a single human being it was magical because nobody ever took the first penny of the bounty's offered for the milk thief.
