Hoop Snake, moving at incredible speeds and keeping clear of trees and vehicles and trees, chases its prey down and up hills as well as down hills and through the stairs through the yard and past the cat. When I was a kid I sat at every corner to ensure my safety against this well known snake . I think I was successful of staying clear of it, since I never did get to see one, or meet a child who witnessed one or was caught by one. My generation probably was more agile than previous generations because almost all adults who spoke about the creature were either victims or relatives of those who were victimized by the Hoop Snake. It's sad when kids learn that Hoop Snakes don't exist. With such a dreadful tone in their voices, adults talked about the animal in such detail that a kid would not have the opportunity to hear their tales.
It is impossible to know how many kids got a spanking by the originators of this tail due to being late for dinner or not arriving on time because they walked slowly, looking at every spot in the distance where there was a Hoop Snake might lay in the waiting area, they were walking to home. It was a stressful period for a lot of children in my old neighborhood. Today, I am aware that there has never been nor will there ever be any Hoop Snake and I'm devastated by this mostly because of the time that I lost in my childhood. Do you think about how powerful it could be if the creature was real? It is amazing to be able to flip on its side, defying laws of Physics. Additionally, it has the ability to steer out from trees and other objects. Although its eyes are constantly focused on the ground or upwards, it never sees the Lay in its direction. They seemed a little amused when I saw them glance around at every corner that I went to. The story is a sham, never was ever a Hoop Snake, never will be.
We then have the fearsome Milk Snake. He was the reason why children developed brittle bones disease. When I was a kid I was taught to drink my entire milk since there was an increase in Milk Snakes because of the rains that were heavy. There would be a shortage of milk very soon. This Milk Snake wasn't at all related to the actual Milk Snake (Lampropeltis Triangulum) and was a member of the King Snake family. The large, fat snake was black and moved slowly and in deliberate manners, making it impossible for cows to resist. It would cling to the cow's utters, not considering the kids whose teeth were likely to fall out. Following that it would wash the cow dry. Our knowledge was that the barn was visited by farmers during the break time, who left behind dust after the cows would utter their thoughts as they milked them.
Farmers would be rewarded with a bounty, and would offer huge sums of money for milk snakes that were brought to them. Although I didn't think about it, can you imagine the size of the milk snake would have been to consume three to four gallons of milk in a single sitting? We are talking twenty-five feet and as big around as footballs. It would have been difficult to find a snake this large however, it was awe-inspiring as was the vampire that could consume six liters of water from one human victim. Nobody ever got the first cent of the money offered to this milk thief. Sad to say that the milk snake is not real it never was and never has been, and will never be. Snakes don't like lactose and forcing a snake drink two pounds of water can cause its death. Beware of the myths!
