The Hoop Snake rolls at a staggering speed, avoiding trees or cars and other obstacles in its way. It pursues its victim down, through hills and down and down hills, as well as sets of steps, through the yard, and then over the cat. It is impossible to stop the ancient reptile from following a child, their favorite prey. As a child I was always looking around every corner to ensure safety against the well-known snake. Unfortunately, I didn’t be able to witness one for myself or meet another child who was victimized by one. My generation was more advanced than the previous generation. The majority of adults who spoke of this snake had either been an innocent victim or had a loved one who was killed. It is sad for kids to discover that Hoop Snakes are now extinct. With such a deep dread that they voiced, adults described the animal with so much detail that children wouldn't get to hear their stories.
There's no way to tell how many children received a spanking by the originators of this tail due to being late for supper or for not getting home on time because they were slow walking and were looking around at every place in the distance where there was a Hoop Snake could be waiting to waiting for them they were walking to home. This was extremely difficult for many kids in my old neighborhood. It is now clear that there has never been or will ever be ever a Hoop Snake. This is partly due to my childhood. Imagine the strength that it could possess had it been a real animal? Its ability to turn on its side defies all laws of physics. It is also able to swerve in and around trees, while its eyes are fixed either downwards or upwards, never seeing what lay on the other side of the way. It's possible that I am providing some adults with a little laugh while I walked off, looking around every corner I came to. The story is a sham, never was an Hoop Snake and it will never be.
The fearsome Milk Snake is next. It is the cause of children suffering from bone diseases that are brittle. As a child I was advised to drink every drop of milk. Due to the increased number of Milk Snakes in heavy rainfalls, there would likely be an imminent shortage of milk. The Milk Snake did not appear to be related in any way to the actual Milk Snake and is part of the King Snake Family (Lampropeltistriangulum). The snake was black, long and fat. It moved slow and cautiously, and cows were never in danger. It would grab cows' utters, and not care about the children whose teeth were soon to disappear. The snake then took the cow dry. We were informed that farmers would go to the barn during the end of the day to find dust leaving the cows mouths as they tried to milk it.
Farmers were rewarded with a bounty and would pay big money for milk snakes that were brought to them. It was something I'd not thought of, but it's amazing to consider that the size of the milk snake was to consume three to four gallons at a time. The snake can reach twenty-five feet in length and as wide as a football. It was difficult to find a snake this big however, it was awe-inspiring similar to the vampire that could drink six liters from one human victim. No one ever received the first cent of the reward given to the milk thieves. Again sad to say the milk snake is a legend, never was one, never will be. Snakes are lactose intolerant, so forcing the animals to drink two ounces could result in their death. I was fooled once again!
