The snake was long and big, black, and slipped into barns under the cloak of darkness, moving along slowly and deliberately, a cow never stood a chance. It would cling to the cows utter and never giving an thought to the children whose teeth were sure to be ripped out and develop brittle bones, and it sucked that poor cow dry. It was reported that farmers would come to the barn at daybreak to scatter dust on the cows while they tried to milk them.
Farmers were rewarded with a bounty and would be willing to pay a huge sum for any milk snake that was brought to them. I have never thought of it, but can you imagine how large a milk snake could have gotten to eat up to four gallons in one sitting? The snake can reach 25 feet in length and be as large as a football. While a snake of this size might have been extremely difficult to locate but it's not impossible to capture. It's sad to say that the milk snake is a myth, never was one, never has been, and will never be. Snakes can't tolerate lactose so forcing a snake to drink two pounds of water can result in its death. Don't be fooled.
