Hoop Snake is a speedy reptile that moves at high speeds, skipping over trees and cars. When it's on trail of its prey, the Hoop Snake is known to chase its prey through the yard, around the cat and up the steps. It's hard to tell the number of children who were slapped by the people who created this wagging tail for being late for dinner or for not being on-time. It was quite confusing for many of the children in my neighborhood. Today, I realize that there never was or ever will ever be a Hoop Snake. This is an unfortunate fact due to the years I lost when I was a kid. Imagine the strength it would be if the animal were actually alive. Its ability to turn its side defies all physical laws. It also can move around and in between trees with its eyes focused either downward or upward but never looking at what lies within its route. Well I guess I provided a few adults with a bit of laughter while I walked away looking around every turn I came across. This tale is busted, never was an Hoop Snake, and never will be.
Then comes the unwelcome Milk Snake. It was at the root of children developing Brittlebone Disease. As a child, I was instructed to drink all my milk since there was an increase in the number of Milk Snakes as a result of the rains that were heavy. It was likely to be a shortage of milk very soon. The Milk Snake wasn't related to the real Milk Snake (Lampropeltistriangulum) or in any other way. This snake was large and all-black and would slip into barns, hiding under a cover of darkness. The cows wouldn't be in a position to stop it from moving slowly and deliberately. It would cling to the cows utter and never giving a thought to the kids who's teeth would fall out , and later acquire brittle bones, it took the cow's blood dry. Based on our research, farmers would visit the barn during day breaks to gather dust and milk cows.
A bounty was set up by some farmers for each milk snake they brought into. I've never thought about it , but can you imagine how huge the milk snake would have been to consume up to four gallons of milk in a single sitting? It can reach twenty-five foot and can grow nearly as tall like a football. It's evident that a snake this large would be easy to locate. However, just like the vampire who was able drink six liters blood from a single person, it was amazing. No one ever received the first penny of the bounty that was offered to this milk theft thief. Sad to say that the milk snake is a myth and never has been, never will be. Snakes are lactose-intolerant so forcing them to drink two ounces could cause their death. Don't be fooled.
