The reason was that they walked slow and looked at every point in the distance in the hopes that a Hoop Snake might be waiting for them. It was a bit confusing for many children in my old neighborhood. Now, I know there's never been and will ever be an Hoop Snake. I am saddened by this due to all my experiences as an infant. Can you imagine the strength this animal would have If it existed? It's amazing to be able to flip on its side, defying laws of physical physics. It also has the ability to steer into and out from trees and other objects. When its eyes are constantly either up or down but it doesn't know the Lay in its direction. While I was wandering around taking in every turn, I gave a bit of a laugh to a couple of adults. The story isn't true. I am no Hoop Snake.
Next is the unwelcomed Milk Snake. It was responsible to kids getting Brittlebone Disease. As a youngster, I was told to drink my entire milk as there had been an increase in Milk Snakes because of the torrential rains, and there was likely to be a milk shortage fairly in the near future. The Milk Snake wasn't related to an actual milk snake (Lampropeltistriangulum) However, it was part of the King Snake family. The snake was long and large, and all black. It was able to slip into barns beneath the cloak of darkness, going slowly and carefully and never giving a cow a chance. It would cling to cows utterings, and never give a thought about children. Their teeth were sure to fall out, and it then would take the blood of the cow. It was said that farmers would come to the barn in the morning to scatter dust on the cows as they tried to milk them.
Farmers would be rewarded with a bounty, and would pay big money for any milk snake brought to them. This was something I'd not thought of, but it's amazing to consider how large the milk serpent must have been to drink three to four gallons at once. They can be seen at 25 feet and are the size of the size of a football. It was difficult to find a snake this big, but it was magical, just like vampires who could drink six liters of blood from one human victim. The only person who ever took home the first penny of the reward paid to this milk thief. The milk serpent is a legend. It's never been ever been a reality and it will not be one again. Snakes are actually lactose intolerant, and forcing a snake to drink two ounces of snake could very possibly cause its demise. Beware!
