It is now evident that there has never been and will never be ever a Hoop Snake. This is partly due to my childhood. Can you imagine how strong it would be if this animal were real? The ability to pivot on its back is a defiance to the laws of physics, as do its ability to spin in and out of trees and other objects while its eyes are looking at either up or down and not seeing what is in its path. They were quite amused as I watched them look around every corner I passed by. The story is over. There was never a Hoop snake and it will never ever be.
Next is the unwelcomed Milk Snake. It was at the root of children developing brittlebone disease. As a child, I was instructed to drink all my milk since there was an increase in Milk Snakes because of the torrential rains. It was likely to be the shortage of milk soon. The Milk Snake was not related to the actual milk snake, one of the members of the King Snake family, (Lampropeltis triangulum) but not in any way. The snake was large and large, and all black. It was able to slip into barns beneath the darkness of the night, moving along slowly and deliberately the cows never had an opportunity. It would grab the cows' words and then go on to suck the cow dry. It was reported that farmers would go to the barn at daybreak to leave dust behind the cows as they tried to milk them.
This snake was a prized farm animal and farmers would shell out huge sums of money for each snake that was at their notice. I've never considered it, but can you imagine the size of a milk snake that could have gotten to consume as much as four gallons in one sitting? We're talking about 25 feet, and as large as a football. While a snake of this size would be very difficult to catch, it is not impossible to catch. It is sad to report that the myth of the milk snake has been discredited. Snakes are lactose intolerant therefore forcing a snake into drinking two ounces of milk could be fatal. Don't be fooled again!
What has occurred? This frightening animal is the product of two very feisty and completely different species of snakes who happened to each other few minutes ago. Male was an Eastern Diamondback snake that happened to meet a Southern Pine serpent. Both observed each other, stars were observed by both and then cupid started shooting arrows all around. Like all married couples (back when) they were a mess of young women. These weren't ordinary youngsters, but snakes sporting half the fathers' defensive weaponry and half the mothers. After all was said and done the Bull snake was among the worst animals to find in the forests.
