Hoop Snake, which is moving at incredible speeds, and staying clear of cars and trees and trees, chases its prey on hills and down, down hills, and up sets of stairs, through the yard and past the cat. When I was a kid I sat at every corner to insure my safety against this widely known snake . I think I was successful in avoiding it. I never did get to encounter one, or even meet someone else who encountered one or was pursued by one. My generation was faster than the other generations. Many adults who speak of this snake were either victims or had relatives who were victimized by one. It's sad for kids to learn that Hoop Snakes have gone extinct. With such a deep dread in their voices, the adults spoke about the creature with so much detail that children could not even get to listen to their stories.
It is impossible to know how many children received an ejection from the creators of this tail because they were late for dinner or not getting home on time because they walked slowly and were looking around at every place in the distance that a Hoop Snake could be waiting to wait for them, while they were walking to home. It was a really confusing period for many youngsters in my neighborhood, and I can assure you this with complete honesty. It is now clear that there never was nor will there ever be a Hoop Snake and I'm devastated due to the time spent in my early childhood. Can you just imagine the strength it would possess had this animal been real? Flipping up on its side over the top of its head is an outright violation of law. The ability of the animal to navigate between trees and other objects is a feat of strength. I'm pretty sure I provided a lot of laughter for some adults who looked at me from every corner I passed. The story is over. There has never been a Hoop snake and never will be.
Then comes the unwelcomed Milk Snake. It was responsible to kids getting Brittlebone Disease. When I was a kid I was told to drink all my milk because there was an rise in the number of Milk Snakes because of the rains that were heavy. It was likely to be an influx of milk soon. The Milk Snake wasn't related to the real milk snake, one of the members of the King Snake family, (Lampropeltis triangulum) and was not even remotely. The snake was all black, long, and large. It moved slow and cautiously and never put cows in danger. It would latch onto the cows utter and never giving a thought to the kids who's teeth would be ripped out and get brittle bones. It sucked that poor cow dry. We were informed that farmers would go to the barn at time breaks to discover dust leaving the cows utter as they attempted to milk it.
The bounty was paid by farmers who would offer a significant amount of money for every milk snake they brought into their farms. It was something I'd not thought of, but it is amazing to think how big the milk snake was to consume three to four gallons at once. This snake is about 25 feet long and the size of the size of a football. It's evident that a snake this large could have been simple to spot. But, like the vampire who could drink six liters blood from a single person it was a feat of amazing. No one ever received the first cent of the bounty that was offered to this milk thieves. The milk serpent is a myth. It's never ever been and will not be one again. Snakes are lactose intolerant and forcing them to drink 2 ounces of water could result in their death. Beware of the myths!
