Hoop Snake is a speedy reptile that rolls at great speeds, dodging trees and vehicles. When it's on trail of their prey, the Hoop Snake will chase the victim around the yard, around the cat and up the steps. I remember looking around every corner to ensure my safety from this familiar snake. But I didn't see the Hoop Snake myself and I never met anyone else who was or was chased by the Hoop Snake. My generation probably grew faster than the previous generations, since almost every adult who spoke about this snake was either an innocent victim or knew someone who was stomped by one. It's a bit sad for children to learn that Hoop Snakes are now extinct. The adults told their stories with such fear in their voice , and they described this animal in such detail, a kid never had a chance.
It's impossible to determine how many children were spanked by the originators for this tail because they were late for dinner or not being on-time. It was a really confusing time for a lot of children in my old neighborhood, I can tell that in all honesty. I have come to realize that there never was an Hoop Snake, and this is mostly due to the time I spent away from my early years. Imagine how much strength it could have if it were alive. It's amazing to be able flip onto its back, defying the laws of physical physics. It also has the ability to steer into and out of trees and other objects. While its eyes are constantly looking down or up and down, it is unable to see the Lay that is on its way. So I must have provided some adults with a little laugh while I walked through the streets, looking at every turn I came across. This tale is not true. I am not a Hoop Snake.
Next we have the dreaded Milk Snake who was responsible for kids acquiring the bone disease known as brittle. As a youngster I was instructed to drink all of my milk as there had been an increase in the number of Milk Snakes as a result of the torrential rains, and there was sure to have a shortage of milk in the near future. The Milk Snake was not related at all to the actual Milk Snake (Lampropeltis Triangulum), a member the King Snake family. This snake was large and black, and would slide into barns underneath a cloak of darkness. A cow wouldn't be capable of stopping it from moving at a slow pace and purposefully. It would cling to the cows' utter and not give any thought to the children with teeth that were likely to be ripped out and get brittle bones. It forced the poor cow to drink dry. According to our sources, farmers would visit the barn during breaks in the day to collect dust and milk cows.
The snake was a sought-after property of farmers, and they paid huge sums for each one that was brought to their attention. While I wasn't thinking about it, can you think of how big the milk snake must be to consume three to four gallons of milk in a single sitting? These snakes can be seen at twenty-five ft and can be as large as a football. It was difficult to find a snake this big and powerful, but it was truly magical, just like the vampire that could drink six liters from one human victim. Nobody ever got the first dollar of all the reward paid to this milk theft thief. The milk serpent is a myth. It has never been one and isn't likely to be. Snakes are lactose intolerant, therefore forcing a snake into drinking two ounces of milk could be fatal. Don't be fooled!
What ever was the cause? The frightful creature is the result of two very amorous and completely different species of snakes who happened on the other short time back. Male was the Eastern Diamondback rat snake who was able to see a Southern Pine snake. After an instant glance, stars were seen by both. Cupid started shooting arrows everywhere and they fell madly and in love. Like every married couple (back then) they were a mess of young un. They were not ordinary youngsters and snakes who had the majority of the father's defensive weaponry as well as half of the mothers. The Bull snake or the Bull snake, as it was known was among the most dangerous animals you could encounter in the forests.
