Hoop Snake is a speedy reptile that rolls at great speeds, dodging trees and vehicles. When it's on trail of its prey, the Hoop Snake will chase its victim through the yard, over the cat and up the steps. I remember looking around every corner to make sure my safety against the familiar snake. Unfortunately, I never saw it myself, nor did I meet anyone else who was or was chased by the Hoop Snake. My generation probably was faster than the earlier generations as almost every adult who spoke about the snake was either a victim or had a family member who was stomped by one. It's sad for kids to learn that Hoop Snakes are extinct. It was a sad awakening for kids to realize that Hoop Snakes weren't real.
It's hard to tell the number of children who were slapped by the people who created this wagging tail for being late for dinner or for not being punctual. It was a very stressful moment for a lot of children in my old neighborhood, I can tell you this with complete sincerity. As of now, I'm aware that there's never been nor will ever be a Hoop Snake. I'm saddened by this, due to the time I spent as an infant. Imagine how much strength it would be if the animal were actually alive. Turning over on its back defies the laws. The animal's ability to move between trees and objects is a feat of strength. I think I did provide a lot of laughter for some adults who observed me looking around at every corner I passed. The story is over. There has never been any Hoop snake and never will be.
The next one is the scary Milk Snake, who caused brittlebone disease in children. As a child I was taught to drink my entire milk since there was an increase in Milk Snakes because of the rains that were heavy. There was the shortage of milk soon. This Milk Snake was not connected to the real Milk Snake (Lampropeltistriangulum), in any way. The snake was huge and black and would sneak into barns beneath a dark cloak. The snake moved swiftly and in a deliberate manner, meaning that the cow wouldn't stand a chance. It would grab onto cows ' utterings and not give a thought about children. Their teeth were certain to come out, and then it would take the blood of the cow. It was said that farmers would stop by the barn in the evening to dust the cows and let it utter while they milked it.
The bounty was paid out by farmers who would offer a significant amount of money per milk snake that was brought into their farms. I have never thought of it, but can you imagine the size of a milk snake that could have gotten to eat up to four gallons in one sitting? The snake is approximately twenty-five feet in length and is nearly as big as the size of a football. Even though a snake this size would be very difficult to catch, it is not impossible to capture. It's sad to say that the myth about the milk snake is now discredited. Snakes are lactose-intolerant so forcing the animals to drink two ounces could cause their death. Beware!
What has happened? The frightful creature was born of two totally different snake species, which were both sexually attractive. Male snake was an Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake that came across a Southern Pine snake. They glanced at each other and stars were visible by both. Cupid was shooting arrows all over the place and then they both fell in love in love with one another. Like all married couples, they had a lot of young women. They were not your typical young people. They had half the weapons used by their fathers, and half the weapons of their mothers. In all fairness, the Bull Snake as it was known was one of most unpleasant creatures to meet within the forest.
