No one knows how many children got spanked by the people who started it. It was a confusing period for a lot of children in my neighborhood. It is now apparent that there has never been nor will ever be an Hoop Snake. This is partly because of my childhood. Can you imagine the strength this animal would have if it were actually real? The ability to pivot on its back is a defiance to the laws of physics as can its ability to turn between trees and other obstacles as its eyes look at either up or down and not noticing what lay in its path. I'm sure I brought lots of laughter to some adults as they observed me looking around at every corner I walked by. The story is over. There never was any Hoop snake and it will never ever be.

It was said that farmers would go to the barn in the morning to scatter dust on the cows while they tried to milk them.
