It's likely that every child who has ventured outside at some time has been warned to get caught by this rogue reptile. The snake's muscular body can create an ideal 360-degree circle on the ground thanks to its length. It then takes its tail and forms a living Hula Hoop by placing it in its mouth.

Hoop Snake is a fast reptile that moves at high speeds, skipping over trees and cars. When it's on the trail of their prey, the Hoop Snake is known to chase the victim around the yard, past the cat, and then up the steps. When I was a child I was always looking around every corner to ensure safety against the known snake. Unfortunately, I didn’t be able to witness one for myself or meet a child who was pursued by one. My generation was probably more agile than earlier generations as almost everyone who talked about this snake was either an innocent victim or had a family member who was stomped by one. It's a shame when children grow up and realize there aren't any Hoop Snakes. It was an important role in the majority of kids ' lives. It was a sad realization for children to learn that Hoop Snakes are not real.

The people who came up with this tail do not know how many kids were given spankings when they were late for dinner or for not being punctual. The reason was that they walked slow and looked at every spot that was in the distance, in which a Hoop Snake could be waiting for them. It was a tense moment for children from my former neighborhood. It is now evident that there's never been and will never be an Hoop Snake. This is partly because of my childhood. What is the strength that the animal would possess in the event that it existed? The flipping of its back defies the laws. The animal's ability to navigate between trees and objects is an impressive feat of strength. I'm pretty sure I provided plenty of laughs for a few adults as they observed me looking around at every corner I passed. This tale is busted, never was a Hoop Snake, never will be.

Then there is the fearsome Milk Snake who was responsible for children developing Brittle Bone Disease. As a child I was taught to drink my entire milk because there was an increase in the number of Milk Snakes as a result of the heavy rains. There was the shortage of milk soon. The Milk Snake was not related to an actual milk snake (Lampropeltistriangulum), but it was a member in the King Snake family. The snake was all long, black and large. It moved slowly and carefully and never put cows in danger. It would latch onto cows utterings, and never think about children. Their teeth were sure to fall out, and it then would take the blood of the cow. The story told us that farmers would stop by the barn at night to wash the cows and then leave it to utter as they milked the cows.

A bounty was established by some farmers for each milk snake they brought into. While it wasn't something I had thought of I can only imagine how big the milk snake must have been to drink up to four gallons milk every time. It could reach up to twenty-five feet and can be as tall as a football. It was difficult to find a snake this big however, it was awe-inspiring as was the vampire who could drink six liters of blood from one human victim. Nobody ever got the first dollar of all the bounty's paid to this milk thief. It's sad to announce that the myth of the milk snake has been discredited. Snakes are lactose intolerant. Forcing a snake to drink two-ounces might cause its demise. I was fooled once again!

What ever was the cause? The frightful animal is the result of two divergent and amorous snakes who met a while back. The male was an Eastern Diamondback rat snake who was able to see the female Southern Pine snake. After an instant glance, stars were spotted by both. Cupid began shooting arrows all over the place and they fell madly and in love. Like all married couples (back then) they were a mess of young uns. These weren't ordinary youngsters, but snakes sporting half the fathers' defensive weaponry , and half of the mothers. All things considered, the Bull Snake as it was known was one of most unpleasant creatures to meet within the forest.
