Every child who goes outside is warned to be alert for the "Hoop Snake" an invasive reptile. This muscular snake can form the perfect 360-degree circular shape in the ground due to its additional length. It then puts its tail into its mouth, creating a live Hula-Hoop, Like magic, it flips up onto its back, and the hunt is in full swing!

Hoop Snake moves at lightning speed, darting trees, cars, and other objects in its path, and chases its victims up, through hills. I was a kid and constantly looked around the corner to make sure that I was secure from this snake. But I didn't get to see or meet another child who was caught or was a victim as a result. My generation probably grew faster than the earlier generations as almost every adult who spoke about this snake was one of the victims or had a family member who was killed by one. It is sad for kids to find out that Hoop Snakes are extinct. It was a devastating awakening for kids to realize that Hoop Snakes were not real.

There is no way to know how many children were spanked by the originators. This was a source of confusion for many youngsters in my community. I can honestly tell you. I have come to realize that there never was an Hoop Snake in my neighborhood, and this is mainly because of the absence of time in my early years. What is the strength it could be if the creature were real? The ability of this animal to turn on its back is a defiance to all physical laws. It is also able to move around and in between trees, while its eyes are focused either downward or upward but never looking at what lies within its way. It's possible that I am providing some adults with a little laugh as I walked away looking around every turn I came across. The story isn't true. I'm not a Hoop Snake.

The dreaded Milk Snake is next. It was the reason for children suffering from bone brittle disease. As a child I was told to drink every drop of milk. Due to the increased quantity of Milk Snakes that occur during severe rains, there would likely be the possibility of a shortage of milk in the near future. The Milk Snake was not connected to the real Milk Snake (Lampropeltistriangulum) or in any other way. The snake was completely long, black and large. It was slow and careful and the cows were never in danger. It would take the cow's' words and go on to suck the cow dry. We were told that farmers would stop by the barn at night to wash the cows and leave it uttering as they milked it.

Some farmers offered a bounty to the snake and would pay large sums of money for every milk snake brought to them. I've never considered it, but can you imagine how large the milk snake would have been to consume up to four gallons of milk in a single time? It could reach up to twenty-five feet and can be as tall like a football. A snake this large would be easy to find but like the vampire that could drink six tons of blood from one human, it was magic because no one ever got the first dollar of all of the rewards offered to the milk thief. Not one. Again sad to say the milk snake is a legend, never was one, never has been, and will never be. Snakes are lactose-intolerant. The force of a snake to drink 2 ounces of milk could lead to the death of the snake. Don't fall for it!

What ever happened the new snake species, the "Venomous Bull Snake?" The frightful creature is the result of a pair of very different, but very amorous snakes. They met one another just a little while ago. Male was an Eastern Diamondback snake that happened to come across an Southern Pine serpent. Both looked at the other, stars were observed by both and then cupid started shooting arrows throughout. There were many young uns as were all married couples of the time. These were more than ordinary youngsters. These snakes had the majority of their father's weapons of defense and the majority of their mothers. The Bull Snake as it was known was one of most unpleasant creatures to meet in the woods.
