Speedy and incredibly fast, the Hoop Snake is able to dodge cars, trees and other objects that comes in its way, the viscious Hoop snake chases its victim down the hill, up and down hills, up sets of steps, through the yard and over the neighborhood cat and nothing will stop this reptile's ancient history in its path of a child, their favorite prey. I can remember watching every corner to ensure I was safe from the familiar snake. But I didn't see it myself and I never met any other child who was pursued by it. I would guess my generation was faster then the previous generations, as just about everyone who was an adult who mentioned the creature was either a victim or had a family member who was victimized by Hoop Snakes. Hoop Snake. It's sad for kids to find out that Hoop Snakes are extinct. It was a devastating realization for children to learn that Hoop Snakes were not real.
It's impossible to determine the number of children who were slapped by the creators of this tail for being late for dinner or not being on-time. It was confusing for many kids in my neighborhood. I can assure you. I now realize that there never was a Hoop Snake which is mostly due to the time I spent away from my early years. What is the strength it could be if this creature was real? The flipping of its back is a feat that defies all laws. The animal's ability to navigate between trees and other objects is an impressive feat of strength. Well I guess I provided a few adults with a little laugh while I walked through the streets, looking at every corner I came across. This tale is busted, never was an Hoop Snake, and never will be.
The next one is the unwelcome Milk Snake. It was responsible to kids getting Brittlebone Disease. When I was a child I was instructed to drink my entire milk since there was an increase in the number of Milk Snakes as a result of the torrential rains, and there was sure to be a shortage of milk fairly shortly. This Milk Snake did not appear to be in any way related to the real Milk Snake, which is part of the King Snake Family (Lampropeltistriangulum). This snake was long and big, black, and moved into barns underneath the darkness of the night, going slowly and carefully the cows never had any chance. It would cling to the cows' utter and not give an thought to the children with teeth that were likely to be ripped out and develop brittle bones, and it took the cow's blood dry. We were informed that farmers would return to the barn during time breaks to discover dust on the cows' utter as they attempted to milk it.
The bounty was paid out by farmers who would shell out a large amount of money per milk snake that was brought to their farm. I never really thought about it but can you imagine how huge the milk snake must have been to consume three to four gallons milk in one sitting? The snakes are visible at 25 feet and are as big as a football. A snake of this size was difficult to find, but just like the vampire who was able to consume six liters of blood from a single victim, it was magic. Since nobody ever made the first cent from the rewards for the milk thief. Sad to say, the milk serpent is a myth. It has never been one and will not be one again. Snakes are lactose intolerant. The force of a snake to drink 2 ounces of milk could lead to its death. Fooled again!
